Collection: 📚 Ven. Mary of Agreda

Venerable Mary of Ágreda (María de Jesús de Ágreda) was a Spanish Conceptionist Franciscan abbess, mystic, and spiritual writer best known for her monumental work The Mystical City of God, a detailed meditation on the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the mysteries of salvation. Born in Ágreda, Spain, she entered religious life at a young age and later served as abbess for decades, guiding her community with humility and firmness.

She is also associated with the extraordinary missionary phenomenon of “bilocation,” as Native American tribes in present-day Texas and New Mexico testified that a “Lady in Blue” instructed them in the faith before missionaries arrived — events investigated by Church and civil authorities at the time. Throughout her life, she maintained correspondence with King Philip IV of Spain, offering spiritual counsel while remaining deeply devoted to prayer and cloistered life.
