Collection: 📚 St. Bernardine of Siena
St. Bernardine of Siena was a Franciscan priest and renowned preacher whose powerful sermons helped renew Christian life throughout 15th-century Italy. Born into a noble family in Siena, he was orphaned at a young age and raised by devout relatives. During a plague outbreak, he courageously cared for the sick before entering the Franciscan Order, where he embraced a life of poverty, penance, and prayer.
Gifted with extraordinary eloquence, Bernardine traveled from city to city preaching repentance, devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus, and reconciliation among divided communities. He famously promoted the Christogram “IHS,” encouraging the faithful to honor the Holy Name of Jesus in their homes and public life. His preaching drew enormous crowds and inspired moral reform throughout Italy. Though offered several bishoprics, he humbly declined them in order to continue his missionary work.
