St. Pius X, born Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, was pope from 1903 to 1914 and is remembered for his deep devotion to the Eucharist and Church reform. Born in 1835 in Riese, Italy, he was ordained a priest in 1858 and served faithfully in various pastoral roles before his election as pope. Pius X encouraged frequent reception of Holy Communion, promoted the reform of Church music and liturgy, and worked to combat modernist ideas that threatened Catholic doctrine. His pastoral zeal and love for the faithful left a lasting impact on the Church.
