St. Raymond of Peñafort
St. Raymond of Peñafort was a 13th-century Spanish Dominican friar, canon lawyer, and scholar, known for his dedication to the Church and the study of canon law. Born around 1175 in Catalonia, Spain, he became a Dominican and served as a confessor, teacher, and advisor to popes. He is especially remembered for compiling the Decretals of Gregory IX, a foundational collection of canon law that guided the Church for centuries. St. Raymond also promoted the work of the Dominicans in preaching, teaching, and combating heresy, and he was known for his humility, charity, and devotion to prayer.
