St. Josemaría Escrivá was a Spanish priest and founder of Opus Dei, a spiritual movement that emphasizes the universal call to holiness and the sanctification of ordinary work. Born in Barbastro, Spain, he experienced hardship at a young age, including the death of several siblings and financial difficulties in his family. These trials helped deepen his trust in God and his desire to serve the Church.

Ordained a priest in 1925, Josemaría came to understand that God was calling people of every state in life—not only priests and religious—to seek holiness through their daily duties, family life, and professional work. In 1928, he founded Opus Dei to spread this message. Throughout his ministry, he preached that ordinary activities, performed with love and offered to God, can become a path to sanctity.

Despite facing misunderstandings, political turmoil, and the challenges of the Spanish Civil War, Josemaría remained dedicated to his mission. His writings, especially The Way, have inspired millions of Catholics worldwide to pursue holiness in everyday life.
