St. Hedwig of Silesia was a duchess renowned for her holiness, humility, and tireless charity toward the poor. Born into a noble Bavarian family, she married Duke Henry I of Silesia and raised seven children while living a deeply prayerful and ascetic life. After her husband’s death, she entered the Cistercian convent at Trebnitz, which she had founded, dedicating herself completely to God and works of mercy. Her life reflected the sanctity possible within marriage and widowhood alike.
Lived: 1174–1243 | Feast Day: October 16 | Canonized: March 26, 1267, by Pope Clement IV
Patronage: Silesia, orphans, widows, and difficult marriages.
