St. Robert Bellarmine was a 16th- and 17th-century Italian Jesuit, cardinal, and theologian, known for his scholarship, defense of the Catholic faith, and guidance of the Church during the Counter-Reformation. Born in 1542 in Montepulciano, Italy, he joined the Society of Jesus and became a respected teacher, preacher, and writer. He is especially remembered for his works defending Catholic doctrine against heresy and for his pastoral care, including guidance to popes and future saints. St. Robert Bellarmine is admired for his intellect, holiness, and steadfast commitment to the truth of the Gospel.
