St. Peter Claver
St. Peter Claver was a 17th-century Spanish Jesuit priest known for his compassionate ministry to enslaved Africans in the Americas. Born in 1581 in Catalonia, Spain, he joined the Society of Jesus and was sent to Cartagena, Colombia, where he dedicated his life to serving those brought to the Americas through the slave trade. He baptized, cared for, and comforted countless enslaved people, advocating for their dignity and human rights. St. Peter Claverโ€™s tireless work earned him the title โ€œSlave of the Slaves,โ€ and he is remembered as a model of charity, justice, and unwavering commitment to the Gospel.
