St. Bernard of Clairvaux was a Cistercian monk and a key figure in the 12th-century monastic reform. He founded the Abbey of Clairvaux and was instrumental in the spread of the Cistercian Order through his deep spirituality, writings, and his role in promoting the Second Crusade. His teachings on the love of God and the contemplative life have had a lasting influence on Christian spirituality.
