Blessed Hanna Chrzanowska was a Polish lay nurse and a pioneer of modern nursing, known for her deep faith and compassionate service to the sick and the poor. A devout Catholic inspired by the works of mercy, she organized home care for the chronically ill, combining professional skill with heartfelt charity. Working closely with Cardinal Karol Wojtyła (later Pope St. John Paul II), she saw nursing as a vocation of love and an encounter with Christ in the suffering. Her life of service reflected the Gospel call to care for “the least of these,” transforming healthcare into a work of holiness.
