St. James the Lesser, also called James the Just, was one of the Twelve Apostles and traditionally considered the first Bishop of Jerusalem. He was known for his deep faith, humility, and strict observance of the Law, earning the respect of both Jews and early Christians. He played a key role in the early Church, presiding over the Council of Jerusalem and guiding the Christian community with wisdom and prudence. Tradition holds that he was martyred by being thrown from the pinnacle of the Temple and then beaten to death for his steadfast witness to Christ.
