St. Roch was a 14th-century French pilgrim and healer, known for his compassion, care for the sick, and miraculous protection against the plague. Born around 1295 in Montpellier, France, he devoted his life to helping those afflicted by disease during his pilgrimages across Italy and France. Tradition holds that he contracted the plague himself but was miraculously healed through God’s grace. St. Roch is remembered for his selfless service, courage, and unwavering faith, and he became a symbol of hope and intercession for those suffering from illness.
