St. Peter Canisius
St. Peter Canisius was a 16th-century Dutch Jesuit priest, theologian, and educator, known for his pivotal role in the Catholic Counter-Reformation. Born in 1521 in Nijmegen, he joined the newly founded Society of Jesus and dedicated his life to teaching, preaching, and writing catechisms that clarified Catholic doctrine. His clear, accessible works helped educate both clergy and laity, strengthening the faith across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. St. Peter also founded colleges, supported missions, and tirelessly defended the Church during a time of religious upheaval. He is remembered for his intellect, pastoral care, and unwavering commitment to spreading the Gospel.
