St. Stephen was a 1st-century deacon of the early Church and the first Christian martyr, known for his unwavering faith and courage in proclaiming Christ. Chosen to serve the community in Jerusalem by assisting the apostles, he boldly preached the Gospel, performing miracles and teaching about Jesus. His fearless testimony angered the religious authorities, and he was stoned to death, forgiving his executioners as he died. St. Stephen is remembered as a model of courage, faith, and forgiveness, and his martyrdom marks the beginning of a long tradition of witness in the Church.
