Collection: ๐ St. Anthony of the Desert (of Egypt, the Abbot, the Great)
St. Anthony of the Desert, also known as Anthony of Egypt, Anthony the Abbot, Anthony the Anchorite, Anthony the Hermit, or Anthony of Thebes, is revered as the Father of Christian Monasticism. Born in Egypt, he gave away his inheritance after hearing the Gospel call to โsell what you have and give to the poor,โ withdrawing into the desert to live a life of intense prayer, fasting, and spiritual warfare. His holiness attracted many followers, and though he sought solitude, he became a spiritual father to countless monks. His life, written by St. Athanasius, spread throughout the Christian world and inspired the growth of monastic communities in both East and West.
