Collection: 📚 St. Raymond Nonnatus

St. Raymond Nonnatus was a 13th-century Spanish Mercedarian priest who devoted his life to ransoming Christians held captive in North Africa. When his funds were exhausted, he offered himself as a hostage and endured imprisonment and torture rather than abandon those he came to serve. His name, Nonnatus, meaning “not born,” refers to the tradition that he was delivered by Caesarean section after his mother died during childbirth.

Raymond is remembered for his courage, compassion, and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. After his death, devotion to him spread throughout the Church, particularly among expectant mothers and those seeking protection in childbirth.
