St. Rita of Cascia
St. Rita of Cascia was a 14th- and 15th-century Italian Augustinian nun, known for her life of perseverance, faith, and devotion to God despite great personal suffering. Born in 1381 in Roccaporena, Italy, she was married young and endured a difficult marriage marked by her husband’s violent behavior. After his death, and the loss of her two sons, Rita entered the Augustinian convent in Cascia, dedicating herself to prayer, penance, and service. She is remembered for her deep humility, miraculous intercessions, and her devotion to the Passion of Christ. St. Rita is often called the “Saint of Impossible Causes” because of the many miracles and favors attributed to her intercession.
