St. Junípero Serra was a Spanish Franciscan friar who played a key role in the establishment of missions in California during the 18th century. Known for his deep spirituality, tireless work, and commitment to spreading the Gospel, he founded nine of the 21 California missions and worked to evangelize the Native American population. Despite physical challenges and opposition, St. Junípero dedicated his life to building communities centered on faith, education, and agriculture. His legacy is marked by his devotion to the poor and marginalized, and his efforts to integrate the Native peoples into Christian life.
