St. Blaise was a 3rd-century bishop and martyr from Sebastea (modern-day Sivas, Turkey), known for his miraculous healing of a young boy who was choking on a fishbone. He is venerated as a patron saint of throat ailments and is traditionally invoked for protection against illnesses of the throat. His enduring legacy is celebrated through the Blessing of the Throats on his feast day, February 3.
