As a mentor to St. John Bosco, he played a pivotal role in the formation of the Salesian Congregation. Renowned for his deep spiritual life and practical approach to preaching, St. Joseph emphasized the importance of the sacrament of Confession and the pastoral care of souls. His love for the Eucharist, as well as his ability to guide the spiritually needy with wisdom and kindness, made him a trusted spiritual director. His work in serving the most marginalized in society earned him the title of “the Priest of the Poor.”
